​A compassionate, enthusiastic, and goal-driven educator with a solid commitment to the social and academic growth and development of every child. I am a qualified teacher with a PGDE, completing an MA in Education. With three and a half years of experience in the classroom and 5 years of tutoring experience. I have become well versed in employing a variety of instructional techniques to effectively deliver tutoring sessions which are adapted to suit each child’s needs. I can manage student behaviour, whilst simultaneously creating and maintaining a comfortable learning environment for all. I am also able to adapt to the changing needs of my students and proactively address issues with students and colleagues. Outside the classroom I am an avid traveller who enjoys documenting my travels through creative, shortform videos. I am all about increasing cultural capital as I understand the importance of being a well-rounded, understanding, and inclusive educator.    

I offer tailored individual lessons for children across the primary school age range from Reception to Y6.  I am passionate about helping children to overcome any barriers they have by working on gaps in their learning and helping to prepare them for tests, such as the Year One Phonics Screening Check and end of Key Stage 2 SATs. With almost 3 decades in the profession, I have excellent subject knowledge and a wealth of experience teaching children of varying ages, abilities and with a range of educational needs. My approach is to show children through modelling and demonstrating the learning and then giving them the opportunity to 'have a go', gradually moving towards greater independence.  Lessons will usually begin with a warm-up and recap of previous learning before we move on to something new.  Building confidence and resilience is the key to success!

The most rewarding part of being a tutor/teacher is seeing that 'lightbulb moment' when a child goes from being 'stuck' to 'unstuck'!  This can be a relatively quick transformation, but sometimes takes a good deal of perseverance and practice.  When it happens though, it is such a valuable motivation to keep going. I firmly believe that it's good to find learning tricky at times and that making mistakes helps us all to grow as learners.  I love supporting children through this process and seeing them flourish.  My background and experience gives me the tools I need to help young learners with all aspects of primary school English and Maths.  I look forward to working with you!

I have an Enhanced DBS certificate and Safeguarding certification.

I am an English teacher with thirty-seven years of experience working in independent schools. Since retirement, I have studied for a MA in Creative Writing and I am now working on a novel for young adult readers set in Victorian London. In my free time I enjoy playing cricket and refereeing junior rugby.

During my career, I have assisted many pupils to achieve success in their English Common Entrance examinations. I can offer a wealth of experience in delivering lessons which build confidence in the reading, writing and spelling skills that are required for SATs. For older GCSE students, I can help with creative writing in Paper 1 and the writers’ viewpoint and perspectives in Paper 2.
